July Cause Area
Global Awareness

The phrase act locally, think globally typically centers on environmental causes but it also applies to education, government and business. Learning about how our actions on a local level impact our neighbors around the globe is a critical leadership development skill. When we support local organizations, they in turn can respond quickly to help people suffering from environmental and humanitarian catastrophes. Learning more about global awareness is our July cause area.

Disasters, both big and small, pandemics, and other crises devastate millions of people each year. These critical events require immediate attention and rely on volunteers and donations to serve those affected. Some organizations prepare year-round for global crises by gathering food and medical supplies, shoes, clothing, books and educational materials. There are a variety of ways you can help by volunteering your time or money to their efforts.

  • Open Hand Atlanta

Open Hand continues to meet the increased demand for their services – both in our community and in others throughout the state. Volunteers are needed to deliver meals, load vehicles and other necessary tasks throughout the building.

    Hope Atlanta

Recognizing the need for bold action to address worsening poverty and inequality in Georgia, Action Ministries and HOPE Atlanta joined forces in 2021 to build a comprehensive homelessness and hunger relief program. Volunteers are needed to help get food and critical resources to those in the community that need it.

  • Refugee Services

According to Refugees International, more than 80 million people worldwide have been displaced by conflict, human rights abuses and persecution, and many millions more are displaced each year by climate related- disasters. Catholic Charities Atlanta (CAA) provides Refugee Services to refugee families arriving in the metro Atlanta area. The extensive resettlement services are designed to help refugees achieve economic and social self-sufficiency within their first six months in the United States.  Volunteers can also assist Catholic Charities Atlanta by furnishing an apartment with useful items for a refugee family. Your support will benefit a family who lived in a refugee camp and was forced to flee their home. Click here for details on how to participate in the Welcome Home Project.

  • Books For Africa

Books For Africa (BFA) was founded upon a singular mission: to end the book famine in Africa. BFA collects, sorts, and ships books, computers, tablets, and library enhancement materials to every African country. BFA remains the largest shipper of donated text and library books to Africa.
